Turquoise-Week of August 31-September 6
The name turquoise comes from Turkey, where the crusaders discovered it, although it was in use thousands of years before. It is a stone assoicated with the gods and goddesses in cultures as far apart as Ancient egypt and China and the Americas. It is traditionally consdiered a stone of travellers, especially if travelling by night. It offers worldly success and authority as well as the power to soar spiritually. This symbol of the sea gives us purity of rhought and thus leads us to greater wisdom. Turquoise promotes creativity, the power of imagination, and an understanding of nature. Its rich colouring shows us the abudance and beauty of nature, allowing an awareness of success and a joy of living to grow within us. It is associated with Hathor, the goddess of love. The hair of Ra was said to be made from Turquoise. The Apaches believed that after a storm turquoise could be found in the damp earth at the point where the rainbow ended; these were prized and fixedd to the end of a bow or gun to ensure an accurate aim.
